  • Pax Romana means Roman Peace, and it was a period of prosperity for the Romans.
  • Compared to the Republic, family importance became less of a priority.
  • Divorces and remarriages were more likely to happen.
  • Couples had less children.
  • Fathers did not have as much power over the family anymore
  • Women were given more rights.
  • The Roman society became more unstable than it was before.
  • The majority of Romans were still poor.
  • There were fewer wealthy Romans.
  • More Romans became reasonably well off.
  • Elaborate buildings were erected such as the Circus Maximus and the Colosseum.
  • New roads were built to link the provinces with Rome.
  • Trade was boosted, the standard of living was raised, and there were many new achievements in the arts.

  • Within a single day, the city of Pompeii was burned to the ground.
  • The volcano Vesuvius erupted in southern Italy in A.D. 79, which is why Pompeii burned.
  • It is believed that the people of Pompeii exhibited many pleasures and comforts.
  • The remains of Pompeii were discovered in a cast of plaster from the result of the volcanic ash and fire.
  • These remains consisted of objects, animals, and even people.
  • What happend at Pompeii is important becuase there was once a civilization there that thrived, and not much is known about it.  The remains are the only clues that were left of the ancient mysterious civilization.
